Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial Heats Up
Followers of the Senzo Meyiwa trial are eagerly looking forward to the proceedings resuming tomorrow, Tuesday 30 January.
Meyiwa was killed by robbers on 26 October 2014 during a break-in at the home of Kelly Khumalo, a well-known gospel singer, and Meyiwa’s girlfriend at the time of his death.
In a bombshell twist, the lead investigator of the case, Bongani Gininda, has accused Khumalo of organising “a contractual assassination or hit” on the late footballer. Gininda levelled the accusations against Khumalo in a Gauteng High Court on Wednesday, 24 January.
According to the detective, one of the accused suspects claimed during a confession that Khumalo had given them instructions to kill Meyiwa.
However, Meyiwa’s brother is adamant that Gininda has the wrong end of the stick. During an exclusive interview with a local publication, Sifiso Meyiwa accused the detective of planting evidence and twisting the facts of the case.
“I will keep on saying this until it’s proven because we’ve got evidence…I know Gininda is lying,” Sifiso said firmly.
The court is currently trying to ascertain whether the confessions – which may have been made under duress – should be admissible.
